一面…一面
The paired adverbs 一面…一面 present two actions or states unfolding at the same time, usually with a shared subject. Each marker directly precedes its own predicate, and the two predicates should be parallel enough for simultaneous interpretation. Neither 一面 may be split by aspect, and the second marker cannot be omitted.

Read the structure
The paired adverbs 一面…一面 present two actions or states unfolding at the same time, usually with a shared subject. Each marker directly precedes its own predicate, and the two predicates should be parallel enough for simultaneous interpretation. Neither 一面 may be split by aspect, and the second marker cannot be omitted. Keep the model Subject + 一面 + VP1, 一面 + VP2 visible while you compare each sentence.
他一面听老师讲课，一面认真记笔记。
He listened to the teacher while taking careful notes.
Choose the right context
Use the first 一面 before the first simultaneous action. Use the second 一面 before the parallel action. Use it when the two situations genuinely overlap in time.
她一面整理资料，一面回答问题。
She organized the materials while answering questions.
Respect the boundary
Do not omit the second 一面. Do not split either marker with aspect. Do not place a marker after the predicate it introduces.
他一了面听老师讲课，一面认真记笔记。
(He listened to the teacher while taking notes.)
Repair the pattern
Aspect marker splits the paired adverb: 一面 is one adverbial marker and cannot contain aspect 了. Second marker follows its predicate: The second 一面 must precede its predicate 回答问题.
他一面听老师讲课，一面认真记笔记。
