MODEL
Subject + 常/常常 + Verb Phrase
Read the structure
常 and 常常 describe an action that happens often or habitually. As adverbs, they normally stand after the subject and before the verb phrase: 我常常去图书馆. They do not go between a transitive verb and its object. Use a time expression as well when the routine needs a clearer frame. Keep the model Subject + 常/常常 + Verb Phrase visible while you compare each sentence.
我常去饭店吃饭。
I often go to a restaurant to eat.
Choose the right context
Describe a repeated routine before the verb: 我常去饭店吃饭。 Use 常常 for an everyday 'often' statement: 她常常看书。 Combine it with a time frame when useful: 我周末常常去公园。
她常常看中文书。
She often reads Chinese books.
Respect the boundary
Do not place 常 or 常常 between a verb and its object. Do not put 常常 before an explicit subject in the neutral clause order. Do not use a habitual adverb to present one single completed event.
我去常常公园。
(I often go to the park.)
Repair the pattern
Frequency adverb placed after the verb: 常常 modifies the whole verb phrase 去公园, so it must precede the verb. It cannot split 去 from its destination. Frequency adverb inserted between a verb and object: 常常 belongs before the predicate 吃早饭. Placing it after 吃 breaks the verb-object phrase.
我常常去公园。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.
