有着 for an Existing Relationship or Quality in Chinese

有着 yǒuzhe

有着 presents an existing, continuing possession or relation, especially with abstract nouns such as 联系, 影响, 关系, or 误会. 着 profiles the state as maintained rather than newly acquired. The construction is common in descriptive or formal prose and is less natural for ordinary concrete possession such as owning one book.

MODEL

Subject + 有着 + Abstract Noun Phrase

Read the structure

有着 presents an existing, continuing possession or relation, especially with abstract nouns such as 联系, 影响, 关系, or 误会. 着 profiles the state as maintained rather than newly acquired. The construction is common in descriptive or formal prose and is less natural for ordinary concrete possession such as owning one book. Keep the model Subject + 有着 + Abstract Noun Phrase visible while you compare each sentence.

两个国家有着长期的友好关系。

The two countries have a long-standing friendly relationship.

Choose the right context

Describe a lasting relationship: 两国有着长期的友好关系。 State an enduring influence: 这段经历对他有着深远影响。 Present a continuing abstract condition: 他们之间有着很深的误会。

这段经历对他有着深远的影响。

This experience has had a profound influence on him.

Respect the boundary

Do not place 着 before 有; it is attached after the verb. Do not add another progressive marker 在 before stative 有着. Prefer simple 有 for routine concrete possession when no sustained descriptive emphasis is intended.

两个国家着有长期的友好关系。

(The two countries ZHE have a long friendly relationship.)

Repair the pattern

着 is incorrectly placed before 有: 着 is the postverbal durative marker and follows 有 directly, producing 有着. A progressive marker is added to the stative construction: 有着 presents a maintained state, not an unfolding activity, so 正在 is incompatible with this intended stative reading.

两个国家有着长期的友好关系。
