有的……,有的…… yǒude…yǒude…

01 / PATTERN

See the Structure

MODEL

有的 + noun + predicate,有的 + noun + predicate

Read the structure

有的…有的… divides people or things within a known group into two or more parts and says something different about each part. Each 有的 introduces one subset. A shared noun may be repeated or understood, while 都 can follow later to summarize the whole group rather than one subset. Keep the model 有的 + noun + predicate,有的 + noun + predicate visible while you compare each sentence.

有的学生看书,有的学生写字。

Some students read, and some students write.

Choose the right context

Divide a known group into subsets with different actions, states, or properties. Put one 有的 before each subset that you contrast or list. Omit the repeated noun after later 有的 when the shared group is already clear.

这些花有的是红的,有的是白的。

Some of these flowers are red, and some are white.

Respect the boundary

Do not use it to mean every member; use 每 or 都 for universal scope. Do not use only one 有的 when no subset contrast or larger group is recoverable. Do not reverse 有的 into 的有 before the noun or predicate.

有的学生看书,的有学生写字。

(Some students read, and some write.)

Repair the pattern

Reversing the second subset marker: The subset marker has the fixed order 有的. Reversing it to 的有 does not form a Mandarin determiner. Splitting the marker from the subset it introduces: 有的 must stay together before its noun or understood subset. 有学生的 is a different, incomplete noun-modifying sequence here.

Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.

04 / LIMITS

When to Use It — and When Not To

Use it when

  • Divide a known group into subsets with different actions, states, or properties.
  • Put one 有的 before each subset that you contrast or list.
  • Omit the repeated noun after later 有的 when the shared group is already clear.

Do not use it when

  • Do not use it to mean every member; use 每 or 都 for universal scope.
  • Do not use only one 有的 when no subset contrast or larger group is recoverable.
  • Do not reverse 有的 into 的有 before the noun or predicate.

05 / REPAIR

Compare Right and Wrong

Compare the smallest meaningful change. Each explanation identifies a placement, scope, form, or clause relationship instead of treating the whole sentence as one undifferentiated mistake.

Reversing the second subset marker

The subset marker has the fixed order 有的. Reversing it to 的有 does not form a Mandarin determiner.

Splitting the marker from the subset it introduces

有的 must stay together before its noun or understood subset. 有学生的 is a different, incomplete noun-modifying sequence here.

Use 有的, not the reversed sequence 的有.

Keep 有的 together before 学生: 有的学生.

06 / PRACTICE

Practice the Grammar Point

2. Choose the correction

08 / QUESTIONS

有的…有的… for Dividing a Group Questions

Can the noun be omitted after the second 有的?

Yes, when the group is already clear: 有的学生看书,有的写字. The second 有的 still introduces a different subset of that same group.

How is 有的…有的… different from 都?

有的…有的… divides a group into subsets. 都 gathers all relevant members under one predicate, so it does not create the same subset contrast.
