Read the structure
一起 and 一块儿 are adverbs that place two or more participants in the same activity. They normally appear before the verb phrase, while a phrase with 跟 or 和 can identify the companions before them. 一块儿 is especially conversational and northern, whereas 一起 is broadly usable across regions and registers. Keep the model People + 一起/一块儿 + verb phrase visible while you compare each sentence.
我们一起去图书馆。
We are going to the library together.
Choose the right context
Say that two or more people take part in the same action. Place 一起 or 一块儿 before the shared verb phrase. Name a companion with 跟 or 和 before the together adverb when needed.
我跟朋友一块儿吃饭。
I eat with my friend.
Respect the boundary
Do not put 一起 or 一块儿 after the object of the shared action. Do not use 一块儿 when you mean one physical piece or chunk; that is a different noun phrase. Do not assume 一块儿 is equally common in every region or formal context.
我们去图书馆一起。
(We are going to the library together.)
Repair the pattern
Putting the together adverb after the action: 一起 modifies the shared action, so it belongs before 去图书馆 rather than after the completed verb phrase. Reversing the fixed word 一块儿: The conversational adverb is the fixed form 一块儿. Reordering its syllables does not form this Mandarin expression.
我们一起去图书馆。
