Choosing Common Degree Adverbs in Chinese
多 / 多么 / 好 / 更 / 十分 / 特别 / 挺 / 有(一)点儿
These forms place a property at different degrees or present it with different speaker attitudes. 多么 and 好 often appear in exclamations, 更 marks a higher comparative degree, 十分, 特别, and 挺 intensify, while 有(一)点儿 marks a small degree and often accompanies a mildly unfavorable evaluation. They precede the predicate they modify.

Read the structure
These forms place a property at different degrees or present it with different speaker attitudes. 多么 and 好 often appear in exclamations, 更 marks a higher comparative degree, 十分, 特别, and 挺 intensify, while 有(一)点儿 marks a small degree and often accompanies a mildly unfavorable evaluation. They precede the predicate they modify. Keep the model Degree Adverb + Gradable Predicate visible while you compare each sentence.
今天多么冷啊!
How cold it is today!
Choose the right context
Use 多么 or 好 to frame an exclamatory degree. Use 更 for a higher degree relative to a comparison point. Use 有(一)点儿 for a small degree, often with an unfavorable state.
这个办法更简单。
This method is simpler.
Respect the boundary
Do not place 了 between a degree word and its predicate. Do not strand 有一点儿 after the adjective. Do not assume all intensifiers carry the same register or attitude.
今天多么了冷啊!
(How cold it is today!)
Repair the pattern
Aspect splits the degree marker from its predicate: 多么 directly modifies 冷; 了 cannot intervene. The small-degree phrase follows the adjective: 有一点儿 precedes the gradable predicate it modifies.
今天多么冷啊!
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.

06 / PRACTICE
Practice the Grammar Point
Complete three short tasks in order: judge the pattern, repair a common error, and build the sentence. Feedback is fixed and reviewed, so these activities do not use a checker allowance.
1. Judge the sentence
2. Choose the correction
3. Build the sentence
Build a complete sentence with 多 / 多么 / 好 / 更 / 十分 / 特别 / 挺 / 有(一)点儿.
07 / APPLY
Apply It in Your Sentence
Write one original sentence with 多 / 多么 / 好 / 更 / 十分 / 特别 / 挺 / 有(一)点儿. Your draft moves to the checker through this browser session, selects this grammar point as the first review focus, and waits for you to submit.
08 / QUESTIONS
Choosing Common Degree Adverbs Questions
Why can 有一点儿 sound negative?
It often presents a small degree as less than ideal, especially with states such as 累, 贵, or 冷. Context can change the evaluation. The wider sentence supplies the comparison point and emotional viewpoint.
Are 挺 and 十分 interchangeable?
Both can intensify, but 挺 is more conversational and often combines with 的, while 十分 is more neutral-to-formal.
