MODEL
(Subject) + 别 + Verb Phrase
Read the structure
别 makes a direct negative command: 别说话 means 'do not speak.' Put an optional addressee before 别 and the prohibited action after it. Do not combine 别 with another negator such as 不, and do not put an explicit subject between 别 and the action it controls. Keep the model (Subject) + 别 + Verb Phrase visible while you compare each sentence.
别进来。
Do not come in.
Choose the right context
Tell someone not to perform an action: 别进来。 Name the addressee before 别: 你别说话。 Use it for an immediate conversational prohibition rather than a factual negative statement.
你别说话。
Do not speak.
Respect the boundary
Do not stack 不 before 别; 别 already makes the command negative. Do not put 别 before an explicit addressee in the neutral command order. Do not use 别 merely to report that an event did not happen.
你不别进来。
(Do not come in.)
Repair the pattern
Two negative command markers stacked together: 别 already marks a negative command. Adding 不 before it creates an ungrammatical stack of negators. 别 placed before the explicit addressee: When the addressee is stated, it comes before 别. 别 must directly introduce the prohibited verb phrase 说话.
你别进来。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.

别 for Negative Commands Questions
What is the basic pattern with 别?
Use optional subject plus 别 plus verb phrase: 你别走 or simply 别走. 别 already carries the negative command meaning.
Is 别 the same as 不?
No. 别 tells someone not to do something, while 不 usually negates a statement, habit, state, or intention.
