Basic Nominal Objects in Chinese
名词性宾语
The object of a basic Mandarin transitive verb is usually a noun phrase placed after that verb. It may be a pronoun, a name, or a quantified noun phrase. Its internal demonstrative-number-classifier order remains intact, and the verb must genuinely allow the kind of object supplied.

Read the structure
The object of a basic Mandarin transitive verb is usually a noun phrase placed after that verb. It may be a pronoun, a name, or a quantified noun phrase. Its internal demonstrative-number-classifier order remains intact, and the verb must genuinely allow the kind of object supplied. Keep the model Subject + Transitive Verb + Noun Phrase Object visible while you compare each sentence.
我喝一杯茶。
I drink a cup of tea.
Choose the right context
Place a thing noun after a transitive verb such as 买 or 喝. Use a pronoun after a verb when a person is its object. Keep a quantified object's number, classifier, and noun together after the verb.
她认识我。
She knows me.
Respect the boundary
Do not place a basic object before the transitive verb without 把 or another licensed pattern. Do not omit the classifier inside a counted object noun phrase. Do not force an object after an intransitive predicate that cannot select one.
她认识我我。
(She knows me.)
Repair the pattern
Object pronoun duplicated after the verb: 认识 takes one object pronoun here; repeating 我 creates two uncoordinated objects in the same slot. Classifier omitted inside the object: The counted object 苹果 needs a classifier between 两 and the noun; 个 supplies that slot.
她认识我。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.

Compare Right and Wrong
Compare the smallest meaningful change. Each explanation identifies a placement, scope, form, or clause relationship instead of treating the whole sentence as one undifferentiated mistake.

弟弟买了两苹果。
弟弟买了两个苹果。
Classifier omitted inside the object
The counted object 苹果 needs a classifier between 两 and the noun; 个 supplies that slot.

Practice the Grammar Point
Complete three short tasks in order: judge the pattern, repair a common error, and build the sentence. Feedback is fixed and reviewed, so these activities do not use a checker allowance.
1. Judge the sentence
2. Choose the correction
3. Build the sentence
Build a complete sentence with 名词性宾语.

08 / QUESTIONS
Basic Nominal Objects Questions
Can an object ever come before the verb?
Yes in topic-comment, 把, and focus constructions, but those require additional grammar.
Can a pronoun be an object?
Yes. It occupies the same postverbal object position as a noun phrase.
