总之
总之 introduces a compact summary or conclusion drawn from points already mentioned. It usually appears at the beginning of the summarizing clause and can close an explanation, argument, or list. It does not add another parallel reason and should not replace a connective that expresses a specific cause, contrast, or condition.

总之 introduces a compact summary or conclusion drawn from points already mentioned. It usually appears at the beginning of the summarizing clause and can close an explanation, argument, or list. It does not add another parallel reason and should not replace a connective that expresses a specific cause, contrast, or condition. Keep the model Prior points；总之，summary or conclusion visible while you compare each sentence.
时间紧，任务多。总之，我们要马上开始。
Time is short and there is much to do. In short, we must start now.
Choose the right context
Condense several earlier facts or arguments into one concluding statement. Place 总之 at the start of the summary clause. Use it to close a paragraph or spoken explanation when the conclusion follows from prior discourse.
听说重要，读写也重要。总之，这四项能力都要练习。
Listening, speaking, reading, and writing all matter; in short, practice all four.
Respect the boundary
Do not use it to add another equal point; use an additive connector instead. Do not use it before any supporting details have been stated or made clear. Do not reverse or split the fixed discourse marker.
之总，我们要按计划完成工作。
(In short, we must complete the work as planned.)
Repair the pattern
Reversing the summary marker: 总之 is a fixed discourse marker. Reversing it to 之总 does not introduce a Mandarin summary. Attaching 了 to the marker: 总之 organizes discourse and is not an event verb, so it cannot take the aspect particle 了.
总之，我们要按计划完成工作。
