MODEL

因 + Cause, 故 + Result

Read the structure

因…故… is a compact formal cause-result pattern corresponding to 因为…所以…. 因 introduces the cause and may be omitted when context already supplies it; 故 introduces the result and must follow the cause. The pattern belongs to formal prose, and its markers should not be stacked with 因为 or 所以 in the same slots. Keep the model 因 + Cause, 故 + Result visible while you compare each sentence.

因不是体面的事情,故不敢说出来。

Because it was not respectable, he dared not speak of it.

Choose the right context

State cause and result concisely in formal prose. Use 故 to introduce a result after an explicit prior cause. Use in notices, explanations, or formal arguments.

他已适应国外生活,故不打算回国。

He has adapted to life abroad, so he does not plan to return.

Respect the boundary

Do not put 故 before the cause. Do not stack 因 with 因为 or 故 with 所以. Do not use it as a neutral conversational default.

因天气恶劣,航班取消故。

(Because the weather was severe, the flight was canceled therefore.)

Repair the pattern

故 is stranded after the result: 故 introduces the result clause and cannot trail its completed predicate. Formal and neutral cause markers are stacked: Choose one paired system: 因…故… or 因为…所以…, not both simultaneously.

因天气恶劣,故航班取消。

Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.
