以…为…: Taking Something as a Role in Chinese
以……为……
以…为… assigns A a role, status, standard, theme, or point of focus: take A as B. The two markers form an ordered frame, with the interpreted entity after 以 and its assigned role after 为. Neither marker can be reversed or omitted without changing the construction's grammatical relationship.

以…为… assigns A a role, status, standard, theme, or point of focus: take A as B. The two markers form an ordered frame, with the interpreted entity after 以 and its assigned role after 为. Choose the right context
Name a theme with 以…为主题. Name a standard or principle with 以…为准. Describe taking a person or thing as a model, center, or goal.
我们不能以自己为中心。
We cannot take ourselves as the center.
Respect the boundary
Do not reverse 以 and 为. Do not omit the entity after 以. Do not omit the assigned role after 为.
她为和平以主题写小说。
(She for peace takes theme writes a novel.)
Repair the pattern
The two markers are reversed: The fixed assignment order is 以 + entity + 为 + assigned role. The role after 为 is missing: 为 must introduce the role or status assigned to the entity after 以.
她以和平为主题写小说。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.
