MODEL
Subject + 频频 + Verb
Read the structure
频频 presents the same action as occurring repeatedly within a relatively concentrated episode, often in reports or vivid narration. It directly precedes the action verb and usually describes observable repeated events such as nodding, raising a glass, or sending signals. It does not state a lifelong habit or take a following frequency count. Keep the model Subject + 频频 + Verb visible while you compare each sentence.
气氛十分热烈,大家频频举杯。
The atmosphere was lively, and everyone repeatedly raised their glasses.
Choose the right context
Describe repeated visible actions during one event. Report recurring signals, contacts, or responses in a limited period. Give formal or vivid narrative emphasis to repeated occurrence.
演讲过程中,听众频频点头。
During the speech, listeners nodded repeatedly.
Respect the boundary
Do not place 频频 after the verb. Do not add an exact frequency count after 频频 for the same repetition. Do not use it for a general long-term habit better expressed by 常常 or 经常.
听众点头频频。
(The listeners nodded repeatedly.)
Repair the pattern
频频 is placed after the action: 频频 is a frequency adverb and must precede the action verb 点头. An exact count redundantly measures the same repetition: 频频 gives indefinite repeated frequency, while 三次 gives an exact count; use one framing for the same events.
听众频频点头。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.
