Clock and Calendar Order in Chinese
年 / 月 / 日;点 / 分
Chinese date and clock expressions run from larger units to smaller ones. A full date is year, month, then day; digital-style time is hour, 点, then minutes. Say 七月二十五号 and 八点三十分. Reversing unit order copies English patterns and produces an invalid Chinese time phrase.

MODEL
Year + Month + Date; Hour + Minutes
Read the structure
Chinese date and clock expressions run from larger units to smaller ones. A full date is year, month, then day; digital-style time is hour, 点, then minutes. Say 七月二十五号 and 八点三十分. Reversing unit order copies English patterns and produces an invalid Chinese time phrase. Keep the model Year + Month + Date; Hour + Minutes visible while you compare each sentence.
今天是七月二十五号。
Today is July 25.
Choose the right context
State dates from large to small: 2026年7月22日。 State clock time as hour plus 点 plus minutes: 八点三十分。 Use 半 after 点 for the half hour: 五点半。
现在八点三十分。
It is 8:30 now.
Respect the boundary
Do not put minutes before the hour in ordinary digital-style time. Do not put the date before the month in a complete Chinese date. Do not add 分 after 半 in the basic half-hour expression 五点半.
现在三十分八点。
(It is 8:30 now.)
Repair the pattern
Minutes placed before the hour: Digital-style clock time proceeds from the hour to the minutes: 八点 + 三十分. The minutes cannot precede the hour. Date placed before the month: Chinese calendar order goes from larger to smaller units. The month 七月 must precede the date 二十五号.
现在八点三十分。
Use the repaired structure without changing the intended meaning.
